My overarching research theme is “building better human relationships.” I have focused on inclusive workplaces where teachers with hearing impairments and those without can work together effectively. My goal is to contribute to the creation of inclusive workplaces that do not impose excessive burdens on either side, but instead foster mutually beneficial (win-win) relationships.
Because I am Deaf, I have trouble hearing and speaking. I use multiple communication methods, including sign language, written text, automatic speech recognition and text-to-speech(TTS)technologies. These experiences have inspired my research and practice on the educational applications of TTS.
I am currently engaged in two primary research projects:
1. Teaching practices using TTS - I am examining their effectiveness through both qualitative and quantitative analyses, focusing on how they enhance learners’ comprehension and improve the overall learning experience in higher education.
2. Inclusive workplaces in disaster-related institutions - I am investigating the relationships between faculty members with hearing impairments and their colleagues, as well as challenges related to disaster preparedness and response, with the aim of promoting inclusivity within organizations.
